Prototype For Adjustable Height Footing Base Plate & Leg for Small & Light OutBuilding / Shelter Mk 1 & Mk 2. (untested)

  Aim

To design a footing  base plate with adjustable height. This is to cope with uneven ground or a flood risk area

Method 

Using a scaffolding 4 tonne  Base Jack (cost £6.5) , turned upside down & inserted into a tube clamp hand rail holder. Then carrying on into a hole, so end is inserted into soft ground.

The base plate is made of 2 layers of cross facing composite door offcuts (top & bottom)  nailed gunned with 75mm nails & glued with Everlast Lumberjack Pu glue (5 min cure)

 A longer section of rebar is inserted as well. to a deeper depth.

Seperate 10-12mm rebar rods may be inserted at an angle if required. Alternatively a concrete fence post beam can be placed on top of the base plate. The concrete beam could be used as thermal mass, perhaps with a heat harvesting fluid pipe system from the roof.



 The base or frame of shelter can be screwed. or preferably bolted to base jack via 4 holes

Mk. 2 





30cm long 48.3mm Dia. aluminium  scaffolding pole with m24mm nuts inserted with hammer / hydraulic press at bothe end. 

3 x  scaffolding base plates have their centre removed with a hammer, and the bolts are threaded though nuts ateither end

Shows nut hammered into tube. Although a tight fit, edges have been bashed over to  stop nut from coming out (testing will determine if thsi is necessary )

Dunkirk Migrant Camp was offered Fire Resistant Building Materials, free, a year before it burnt down
On 10 April this year, a fire at the Migrant Camp in Dunkirk spread sufficently to destroy over half the buildings, many people lost all their very precious, remaining belongings and 10 people were injured.
The plywood chalets for migrants at the Dunkirk Migrant Camp were built by the charities Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and 'A Home for Winter'.
In February 2016, Paul Ridley of the Cabinz Project, a small community group in Chester UK, wrote warning both charities that the chalets were neither adequately insulated nor fire resistant and indicated methods to improve both and offered to pay for the necessary panels.

The method suggested was to clad the inside with plastic-coated metal sheeting and the outside with rigid foam insulation under steel outer sheeting. Paul offered sufficient panels and fixings to fill…

Prototype Wedge Block Shelter with Grp Window Cladding & Composite Door Edge Off-Cut Frame / Corner Brace

Following on from previous prototypes here, & here,  this shelter is a lightweight, quickly constructed progression.

It is constructed by one man alone (to save labour costs)  it's currently unfinished, a work in progress

The cabinz project has support of a supplier of opaque grp profiled roof sheets at very low cost (less than £3 a mtr). These are very strong & light, & are old stock / slight seconds.

We are selling these sheets for £4 a metre (no Vat ) in the Uk, to rasie funds for the Cabinz project shelter research. The project is currently funded only by voluntary labour & small donations

We recently sold at cost & donated 140 of these grp sheets to a third party aiming to build low cost shelters in Sierra Leone, Africa. This prototype is made partly to explore options for how such shelters would be made .

The frame & corner braces off-cuts are donated free by a Uk composite door manufacturer
