Street Lamp Fastened Floating Bases with Hexayurt Shelter Attached for Flooded Disaster Area Rescue or Residence

The Houston Flooding disaster got me thinking about a similar idea I had many yrs ago.

The original idea was to have a buckyball or dodecahedron framed sphere (shape used for strength ), covered in grp or concrete .
This would have a small hole in the top & bottom attached to a sleeve sealed, so water could not penetrate the interior

This would allow a metal pole (approx. dia of a street lamp) to pass through it

This pole would be cemented securely into the ground.

The point of this would be to allow the sphere to rest on the ground in dry weather (perhaps with an earth rammed tyre wall it sits in for thermal mass insulation)  , but to float up & down the pole as the flood water rose, yet not be swept away .

A windmill  /wifi router could be attached to the top of the pole .

A further thought would be that the pole could be used as a chimney for wood burning fires, if a hole was cut in one side & a plate inserted to hold ashes, supported by a through bolt.

Leading on from this,…

Raised Beds Frame Prototype From grp / plastic Composite Door Panel off cuts with Handbridge Allotment

Raised Beds Prototype From grp / plastic Composite Door Panel off cuts with Handbridge Allotment

The aim is to replace the rotting wood frame with composite door offcuts, that are glued and screwed together . These will not rot or be eaten by insects for an estimated 25 yrs +

They may be more visible, being white on one side.

So they may reduce tripping hazards in poor evening light, as many allotments / gardens are unlit

DES Pegs will be hammered into gound to support them

size is approx 2.44 x 1.22 m2  Frames are approx 30cm tall

Prototype 1

Window cut outs are framed with door edge strips (DES) with a door edge strip section between panels horizontally to screw DES to.

They are glued together with Everbuild lumberjack 5 min PU glue & 75mm screws

A 2nd idea is to use the smaller DES screwed & glued together with cheaper silicon sealant

This is quicker to make, than it appears at first. The planks are also heavier & stronger with the grp side resisting the outward so…

Prototype Green House / Shed DIY Kit Mk 1 with Slanting Flat Roof (Using DES Strips & Grp Sheets)

Prototype Green House / Shed 1
Thsi is exploring a method for making a one-off shed.
If it was repeated in manufacture , it could be used as a pattern.
my intention is to make differnt roof types to fit the cube base like the previous WedgeBlock shelter

Make 4 x 2 mtr square frames with corner braces. Then 2 triangular roof side frames

Note: the top & bottom frames have the grp side on the top & bottom to take the extra weight of the roof ( the composite DES sticks are weaker if facing the othe way)

 Close up

 1. Screw 4 x frames together to form a cube.
2. Move frame onto its' side
3. Screw 2 triangular roof side frames to cube frame

Screw Grp sheets to the side temporarily and cut to size.

Note: sometime the off cut slanted side is the same angle as the adjoining panel, so it can be reused as the neighbouring panels

Approx. 1 tonne of Building Materials to build 2 to 3 Small Green Houses / Walking boards or Raised Beds, donated to Ellesmere Port Allotment Residents by the Cabinz Project

For more info , look HERE

These composite materials included fire & rot resistant door off cuts for insulating & repairing sheds .

Plastic wood type 2m long beams to make green house or shed frames were doanted with opaque grp roof sheets.

Perhaps resisdents will build structures like our Wedge Block prototype shelters Here & Here or Here Screws, glue & corner braces were also donated by Cabinz.
Cabinz has some funding to distribute materials to make 2 to 3 greenhouses .

We would like to hear from community groups in the NW & North Wales, such as allotment or men in sheds projects who may want them.
Please email cabinznet@gmail.com
